For those who liked the fruit chart, here are two more of the Fresh Produce Charts that show when fresh vegetables and fresh herbs should be available.
This and other charts on vegetables and herbs are available online at Chasing Delicious, who apparently designed them and can also be bought at The Sweet Tooth Paper Goods Company.

What Can We Expect on the Cluny Market and When?
As winter runs its course, it's nice to start thinking about all that fresh local fruit that will become available from friends and neighbors and the local markets. I found these interesting graphs on line.
I'm not knowledgable enough to know how well this applies to Le Gros Chigy, but its a nice picture to put in your kitchen anyway.

What about developing our own chart for Bourgogne or even a part thereof?

Flea Markets and Boot Sales - Puces et Vide Grenier
I am becoming a bit of an expert on Flea Markets and Boot Sales (Puces et Vide Grenier) here in Bourgogne!
The Vide Grenier at Sivignon was out in the fields on 14th July.

Paying 31/07 The one at Blanot was on a field in the town. This allowed them to charge an entrance fee which made them unpopular with buyers and sellers alike.

The Puces / Vide Grenier at Lounand ran from a few houses on the right into the road!

Colours at the Market
Being off line and using the iPad allowed me to play a bit with some of the interesting graphics programmes for Apple.

This one was produced using the free SketchBook Express and simply copying clips into the applications layers.

Cluny Market
You know you are not in SA anymore when you go to a rural French market on Saturday morning for your food, nursery and decor shopping.

I posted on the Saint Gengoux market once before and noted some of the markets in the area. http://www.frenchmarketdays.com has a summary of the markets in the area, but even this is not complete as it doesn't show the Buffiers market and probably many others in smaller villages.
What caught my photographic eye at the market were the colourful fruit and vegetables displays along with the chalked in prices on small blackboards. It was clear, looking around, that unlike streetside markets in South Africa, the prices differ between stalls.

One might be tempted to think that a market in a small rural town would be selling only local food. However, although the providence of all food seems to be indicated, there is still food from all over the world.
